Queens Rolls Past Owls on Senior Day

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team (8-5, 3-1) is back in the win column after picking up a 14-8 ASUN Conference win over Kennesaw State (2-11, 1-3) this afternoon on Senior Day.   
 
How It Happened
After falling behind 3-1 in the opening quarter thanks to a 3-0 run by the Owls, Queens scored a pair of late goals to knot the game at 3-3 heading into the second period. The Royals then used a 3-1 push in the final 10 minutes of the first half to take a one-point lead into the break.
 
Queens would take complete control of today's game in the third scoring four unanswered goals to increase the margin to five, 10-5. The Royals then added four more goals to the board in the fourth to hold on to the win despite the Owls' efforts to close the gap.   

Key Stats & Notes
  • Kayleen Favreau recorded four goals and one assist to lead the Royals' offense. Shannon Kingston recorded a hat trick en route to scoring her 100ther career goal. Additionally, Jillian Gironda and Isabella Swanson each chipped in with two goals.
  • Grace Guglielmo recorded four caused turnovers, three ground balls, and seven draw controls.  
  • Sharn Muffett took today's win in goal after totaling six saves in 55:50.
  • Hanna Davis led the Owls with three goals and two assists. Caroline Farley added two goals.
  • Julia Weiss took the loss in the cage for the Owls after totaling seven saves in 30 minutes of action. Errin Crowe also recorded seven saves.
  • Queens outshot Kennesaw State 34-18, putting 28 shots on goal compared to the Owls' 14 shots on goal.
  • Queens won the battle in the circle, taking 15-of-26 draw controls. The Royals also won the battle for ground balls, 22-20.
  • Prior to the start of today's game, seniors Shannon Kingston, Shannon Donovan, Stephanie Joyce, Caroline Pearce, Colby Dugdale, and Annie Hutter were recognized for their careers at Queens along with fifth-year seniors Grace Guglielmo and Sharn Muffett.

"I'm so proud of this team," said head coach Kelly McQuilkin. "To finish our first Division I home schedule 7-3 is a testament to how hard this team has worked all year. To our seniors who have helped build this program, thank you for your leadership. We are not done yet! Our team is excited to head to Florida this week for two great road games."
