The Short Story:Â The Queens University of Charlotte baseball team dropped the weekend rubber match with Kennesaw State on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Kennesaw State opened the scoring with three runs on three hits and a Royals error. The Owls did their damage with two outs after Zach Kelly retired the first two batters on five pitched.
-Queens would get on the board in the bottom of the third inning by capitalizing on an Owls error. Andrew McDermott opened the frame with a walk before Connor Manco ripped a one-out single into center field which was misplayed by the Owls defender allowing McDermott to come around to score.
-The visiting Owls would extend their lead to 5-1 in the fifth inning with a pair of runs. Chris Cole was hit by a pitch before Hudson Mimbs belted a two-run blast to left field.
-Kennesaw State would add to their lead in the sixth inning with three runs. The Owls capitalized on four walks and an error by the Royals defense to increase their lead to 8-1.
-The Owls would tack on three runs on four hits in the top of the seventh to grow their lead to 11-1.
BY THE NUMBERS
-Christian Maggio led the Royals offense with a 2-for-3 performance. The Myrtle Beach native has recorded seven multi-hit performances on the season.
-Andrew McDermott, Connor Manco, Nick Alderfer, and Zach Weston added a base hit on the day. Manco has reached safely in 12 of the last 14 contests as he increased his season average to .364.
-Queens committed four errors on the day for the second time in this series. The Royals have committed four or more errors on five occasions this season.
-The Royals issued 13 walks on the day matching a program record. Queens is 0-7 on the season in games in which they surrender 10 or more walks.
-Despite getting the lead-off man on in 4-of-7 innings, the Royals struggled with runners on as they hit .200 on the afternoon.

The Royals will hit the road for a four-game road trip beginning on Tuesday, April 25 at North Carolina A&T. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. from Greensboro. Queens will hit the road over the weekend for an ASUN battle at North Florida beginning Friday, April 28 at 6:05 p.m.
