Powley Notches 200th Career Save in Game at Mercer

MACON, Ga. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team (2-11, 1-7) traveled to take on the Mercer Bears (5-9, 4-4) this afternoon falling 18-5.
 
How it Happened
Mercer quickly jumped out in front in today's game, scoring six unanswered goals before Colby Suglia found the back of the net for Queens with 2:02 on the clock to give the game a 6-1 score heading into the second. The Royals would fare better in the second, holding the Bears to just three goals while putting two on the board to trail 9-3 at the halftime break.
 
The Royals were still battling to get out of the hole in the third adding two more goals to their total. However, the Bears would remain in front scoring four more times in the quarter. Mercer then held the Royals scoreless in the fourth period while putting five more points on the board to solidify their win.

  • Jacob Schrek led defensively with four caused turnovers and four ground balls.
  • Wesley Wheat tallied today's loss in goal after totaling seven saves in 30 minutes of play. William Powley totaled 10 saves in the second half to record his 200th career save at Queens.
  • Carl Klepper led the Bears with four goals while Parker Junod added three goals.
  • In goal, Colin Kelly earned the win after totaling eight saves.
  • Queens was outshot 51-31 by Mercer who put 35 shots on goal compared to the Royals' 14 shots on goal.
  • Mercer won 18 of the 26 face offs and edged the Royals in ground balls, 23-21.

"Credit to Mercer on a well-earned ASUN victory. We look ahead to next Saturday as we host Utah at Dickson Field for our Senior and Alumni Day festivities."
