DELAND, Fla. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team (9-5, 4-1) traveled to face Stetson (8-7,1-4) this afternoon in their first ASUN Conference road game of the season coming away with a 16-12 win over the Hatters. Additionally, today's win clinched a spot in the ASUN Women's Lacrosse Championship for the Royals and guaranteed the program its 10
th straight winning season.
How It Happened
The Royals jumped on the Hatters early offensively, building a 9-3 lead over Stetson in just the first quarter of action. Queens then outscored Stetson 4-1 in the second to take a 13-4 lead into the half.
The Royals' first-half lead would prove to be beneficial in the second as the Hatters tried to put together a comeback in the fourth where they found the back of the net six straight times to close the gap to three, 15-12, with 3:47 on the clock. Fortunately,
Caroline Kraemer would come up with a huge save late in the game to stop the run just before
Elise Grissett scored the final goal of the day to give the game its final score.
Key Stats & Notes
- Shannon Donovan, Elise Grissett, and Kayleen Favreau each scored four goals while Karsyn Sadler added two goals. Jillian Gironda led in assists with three while Donovan had one assist.
- Sharn Muffett took today's win in goal after totaling two saves in 30 minutes of play. Caroline Kraemer added eight saves in 30 minutes of action.
- Sydney Heimann totaled 13 saves in the loss for Stetson
- Kaitlin Pani totaled six goals to lead the Hatters while Samantha Paglino added three goals and three assists.
- Queens outshot Stetson, 35-33, putting 29 shots on goal compared to the Hatters' 22 shots on goal.
- Queens totaled 21 ground balls to Stetson's 19 while recording 11-of-30 draw controls.

"I'm proud of how my team was able to come out and establish ourselves from the beginning on both sides of the field," said head coach
Kelly McQuilkin. "We haven't been on the road for a few weeks and I'm proud of how we found our groove early. Stetson is a good team that never gave up. We will learn a lot from today and start prepping for Jacksonville tomorrow morning."
