CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Queens was back on the road this weekend, taking on Jacksonville State in a three-game series. They'd manage a split on the first day before dropping the final game of the series, improving their overall record to 18-17.
GAME 1
Autumn Courtney got the call in game one of the series, coming off her second-consecutive ASUN Pitcher of the Week honor. Although she did not manage any strikeouts, she managed to hold Jacksonville State to just one run on four hits. Unfortunately, the one run proved to be the difference, as Queens' offensive struggles saw them knock just four hits and not bring any home.
GAME 2
After a slow first game, Queens was able to get the bats going in the second.
Kasidi Staley got the Royals on the board in the top of the first, as a single up the middle brought home
Kayla Smith and put them ahead early, 1-0.
The Gamecocks responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning and would later take the lead with a second run in the bottom of third.Â
JSU's lead would not last very long, as
Caroline Johnson smashed a two-run home run to left field in the top of the fourth to put the Royals back on top, 3-2.Â
Queens would add another pair of runs one inning later thanks to some tricky base-running, as
Jordyn Thompson and
Gerlea Patton would cross the plate on a passed ball to extend the lead to 5-2.Â
Abby Craver got the start for the Royals and pitched four solid innings, giving up just two runs while earning two strikeouts.
Autumn Courtney would come in to relieve Craver and pitch the final three innings, holding the Gamecocks scoreless while striking out two of her own.Â
The Royals would ultimately come out on top, 5-2.
GAME 3
Ashlyn Mickler and
Caroline Johnson both managed a pair of hits in the final game of the series, however Queens were unable to bring any home.Â
Autumn Courtney got the start for the Royals and pitched 4.2 innings, giving up four runs and managed a strikeout. Abby Crave entered the game in the fourth in relief and managed a trio of strikeouts herself.Â
Jacksonville State would ultimately come out on top, 4-0, and win the season series 2-1.
