Jordyn Thompson Knocks Four Hits and Scores Twice as Queens Battles Furman in Doubleheader

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Queens' lengthy road trip finally came to an end Wednesday evening as they headed to Greenville, S.C. to take on Furman in an evening doubleheader. The Royals managed a much stronger offensive showing in both games, however were unable to come out on top in either. Furman took the first game 5-2, before taking the second, 6-5.

GAME ONE
Queens managed to get on the scoreboard first in game one thanks to a right-field triple by Jordyn Thompson that brought home Lindsey DeRoeck and gave the Royals a 1-0 lead.

Furman responded well by keeping Queens at bay while managing five runs of their own in the third-fifth innings, claiming a 5-1 lead at the end of the fifth.

The Royals were able to get one back in the top of the sixth, as a sacrifice fly by Ashlyn Mickler scored Kasidi Staley and cut the deficit to three.

The Paladins were ultimately able to hold on 5-2.

Abby Craver got the start for Queens and managed a strikeout before being relieved by Autumn Courtney who added two of her own in an inning of work.

GAME TWO
Like the first game, the Royals were able to strike first in game two, as a groundout by Caroline Johnson scored Kayla Smith in the top of the first inning.

The Paladins quickly fired back, scoring three runs in both the second and third innings to grab a 6-1 lead over Queens.

The Royals refused to give up, as Haley Hmiel reached on a field error that scored Jordyn Thompson and made the score 6-2. Two innings later, Hmiel grounded out but brought home another run which scored Thompson yet again and cut the deficit to four. Later in the inning, Kasidi Staley and Ashlyn Mickler found open grass in the outfield that each scored a run and brought Queens within one. Unfortunately, the Royals would stall out there as Furman would hold on to win, 6-5.
