Royals Face High Point on the Road

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team (1-4) traveled to take on High Point University (5-2) falling 22-6 to the Panthers.    
 
How it Happened
The Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter before the Royals found their first goal of the night. However, a pair of goals from High Point followed to give the home team a 5-1 lead heading into the second period.
 
High point opened the second with three unanswered goals to extend their lead to seven, 8-1, before Jacob Bowen found the back of the net for the Royals. The Panthers went on to outscore Queens 4-2 in the remaining minutes of the half to take a 12-4 lead into the halftime break.
 
In the second half, the Panthers put 10 balls in the cage compared to Queens' two to secure the 16-goal win.
 
Key Stats & Notes
  • Jack Royer led the Royals with two goals while Micah Stechmiller added one goal and two assists. Hunter Meyer and Jacob Bowen also totaled two points each as both tallied a goal and an assist.
  • In goal for Queens, William Powley totaled eight saves while Gage Turner had six saves.
  • Paxtin Powell took the loss in goal for Hampton after totaling 11 saves.
  • Jack Vanoverbeke led the Panthers with eight points on two goals and six assists while Michael Ippolito and Brayden Mayea each recorded hat tricks.
  • Pete St. Geme led the Panthers defense with four caused turnovers while Collin Hoben won 15-of-19 face-offs and totaled 10 ground balls.
  • Queens was outshot, 58-17, by High Point who put 36 shots on goal compared to Queens' nine.

  • Tonight wrapped the Royals' nonconference schedule for the season as they will begin ASUN Conference play next weekend.

"Hats off to High Point on a great performance," head coach Chris Panos stated. "We had some opportunities, but ultimately didn't make enough plays to earn a victory. We are looking forward to getting healthy in preparation for our ASUN Conference home opener next weekend."
