CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The four-day Eagle Classic comes to an end, seeing Queens display a promising showing early on in the season. Queens concluded the invitational with a second matchup against North Carolina A&T, beating them 11-0 with a run rule in the sixth inning.
After grabbing a run in the second,
Lindsey DeRoeck knocked a two-run home run in the top of the third inning to put Queens ahead, 3-0.
Two innings later,
Gerlea Patton and
Jordyn Thompson's speedy base-running saw them both cross the plate on wild pitches to extend the lead to five.
Thompson added to the scoring party one inning later as she stepped up to bat with the bases loaded and smashed a bases-clearing double down the left field line to tack on another three runs for the Royals.
Kasidi Staley would add another pair of runs later in the inning with a two-run single.
Autumn Courtney continues to serve as Queens' ace on the mound with another eye-popping performance against the Aggies. She pitched all six innings, only allowing four hits and no runs while striking out nine en route to her third victory of the season.
Queens continues its lengthy road stint next week, facing off against USC Upstate on Wednesday, February 22 before competing in the Wings ETC Classic next weekend.
