Queens Set for Rematch at Kennesaw State on Saturday Afternoon

KENNESAW GA. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team (16-12 overall, 6-9 ASUN) will look to snap a four-game losing skid against the league-leading Kennesaw State Owls (21-7 overall, 13-2 ASUN) on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 PM and the game will be broadcasted on ESPN Plus. The second meeting between the two programs is a pivotal one as the Royals are tied for the final spot for a berth in the ASUN Tournament.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Royals are coming off their third straight loss after falling at Jacksonville State on Thursday night by a final score of 76-69. Despite the loss, senior Kenny Dye became the Queens Men's Basketball all-time leading scorer at 1,811 career points surpassing Reginald Hopkins. Dye poured in a career-high 34 points on a 15-for-16 mark from the field against the Gamecocks. BJ McLaurin reached double figures for the 14th time this season with a 10 point and six rebound effort. Chris Ashby was on target all night from behind the arc going 5-for-8 for 15 points.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
Saturday afternoon will be the second meeting between the Royals and the Owls this season. Kennesaw State took the first meeting inside Curry Arena 76-67. AJ McKee led the Royals scoring a team-high 17 points while bringing down a season-best eight rebounds. Chris Ashby and Kenny Dye both reached double figures combining for 29 points. A 10 minute scoring drought from the field over the final 10 minutes of the first half plagued the Royals. For the Owls, Chris Youngblood led the scoring with a game-high 22 points.

QUEENS UNIVERSITY OF CHARLOTTE (16-12 overall; 6-9 ASUN)
  • Queens enters Saturday afternoon averaging 79.4 points per game on 45 percent shooting from the field and 35 percent from behind the arc. The Royals are the league's leading scoring offense and hold a 1.103 offensive efficiency rating.
  • On defense, the Royals are allowing 75.3 points per game on 46 percent shooting from the field and 35 percent from behind the arc.
  • Queens is 6-8 this season in true road games and 2-5 on the road in league play. The Royals will play their three remaining games against the top two teams in the league.
  • The ASUN leads all NCAA Conferences in three-point attempts this season with a combined 9,445 attempts. The Royals are averaging 27.2 three-pointers per game which is the third most in the league. Queens is sinking an average of 9.6 three-pointers per game.
  • Queens has gotten to the free throw line the second most in the ASUN and made the most free throws in the league. The Royals are top 50 in the nation in free throw attempts per game.
  • Kenny Dye is the leader of the veteran Royals squad as the senior is averaging a team-high 17.6 points per game while hauling in 4.1 boards and dishing out 4.8 assists per game. The Royals are 111-32 when Dye is in the starting lineup as he is second in points per game and first in assists per game in the league. Dye is 16 assists away from tying the program record which was set by Donay Fullwood in 1991-95.
  • AJ McKee has been a consistent producer this season as he has reached double figures in 27-of-28 games. The sophomore is averaging 18.1 points per game against league opponents which is second-best in the ASUN.
  • BJ McLaurin has been a weapon for the Royals averaging 9.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per game across 22.4 minutes. McLaurin turned in his first double-double as Royal, and 15th of his collegiate career against Bellarmine last week.
  • Jay'Den Turner is averaging 7.9 points and 6.9 rebounds this season. The junior is fourth in the league in rebounds per game as he has brought down double-digit boards in three of the last four games.
  • The Royals are 42-7 in the last two seasons when outrebounding their opponent. This year, Queens is second in the ASUN in rebounds per game with 38.0 and second in the league in offensive boards per game with 11.6. Queens has posted double-digit offensive rebounds in 20 games this season, including 10 of their last 15 games.
 
KENNESAW STATE UNIVERSITY (21-7 overall; 13-2 ASUN)
  • Kennesaw State enters Saturday afternoon 21-7 overall and 13-2 in league play. The Owls have won three straight, including a comeback victory over Liberty on Thursday night to claim sole possession of first place in the league standings.
  • The Owls are a perfect 12-0 inside the KSU Convocation Center this season.
  • Kennesaw State is averaging 75.6 points per game on 46 percent shooting from the field and 37 percent from behind the arc. The Owls are the sixth-best scoring offense in the league.
  • On defense, KSU is surrendering 69.1 points per game on 44 percent shooting from the field and 34 percent shooting from behind the arc. KSU possesses the fourth-best scoring defense in the league. The Owls lead the ASUN in turnovers forced per game and steals per game.
  • Kennesaw State is led by Chris Youngblood who is averaging 14.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. The junior has reached double figures in 15 straight games.
  • Senior Turrell Burden is a standout for the Owls who is averaging 13.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. Burden leads the league in steals and sits top five in free throw attempts and free throws made.
  • Last season, Kennesaw State finished 13-18 overall and 7-9 in league play. The Owls fell in the quarterfinals of the ASUN Tournament at Jacksonville State.
  • Amir Abdur-Rahim is in his fourth season at the helm of the Owls program and holds a 40-72 record.
