Royals Make Late Run at Elon

ELON, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team (0-2) traveled to face Elon University this evening, falling 13-9 to the Phoenix (1-1)
 
How it Happened
After falling behind 2-0 early, the Royals found back-to-back goals to knot the game at 2-2 with 9:39 on the clock. However, the Phoenix put together a 3-0 run to take a 5-3 lead at the close of the first period. Elon then scored five unanswered goals to start the second to complete their eight-goal push in front 10-2. The Royals would score twice more before the break to trail 10-4 at the half.
 
Queens held the Phoenix scoreless in the third while adding one goal to the board. Following a pair from the Phoenix at the start of the fourth, the Royals found the back of the net four straight times to close the gap to three, 12-9, but that was as close as they would get before the final horn sounded.

  • Freshmen Kayleen Favreau and Elise Grissett each scored their first career goals in today's game.
  • Senior midfielder Shannon Donovan finished with two goals while senior midfielder Shannon Kingston totaled two goals and one assist.
  • Junior midfielder Maura O'Donoghue led in points with four on two goals and two assists.
  • Sharn Muffett totaled six saves in 39:47.
  • Elon's Chloe Herghelegiu took the win in goal after totaling six saves in 31:44.
  • Elon's Sammy Fisher led all on the field with four goals while Cierra Hopson and Anna Hackett each finished with hat tricks.
  • Elon outshot Queens, 30-23, putting 22 shots on goal compared to the Royals' 15 shots on goal.
  • The Spiders edged the Royals in draw controls, 16-10, and in ground balls, 14-11.
