SHORT STORY
Kinley Brown had a career game for the Royals with 16 points and a rebound shy of a double-double to lead a solid bench attack. However, the Royals fell in a hard-fought matchup with the Blue Hose of Presbyterian.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Kinley Brown had one of the best statistical games of her career by tying a career-high with 16 points and setting a career-high with nine rebounds and six offensive boards
- Nicole Gwynn continued her scoring dominance with the Royals as she scored 15 points
- Junior Tiziana Huici had a solid all-around game off the bench with 10 points, six rebounds, and three steals
- Adia Brisker led the Royals with three assists as she also added six points, four rebounds, and three steals
- Alexandria Johnson scored seven points with four rebounds
NOTABLE MOMENTS
- The Royals continued their trend of strong starts at home by beginning the game on an 8-0 run where four Royals recorded a bucket. Queens continued to take advantage of struggles from Presbyterian as they took a 12-3 lead into the first media timeout and extended that lead to 20-5 at one point.
- After the Blue Hose attempted to fight their way back into the game and cut a second-quarter deficit to 30-16, the Royals found their stroke as Kinley Brown and Nicole Gwynn each hit three-pointers in an 8-0 Queens run to give the team a 38-16 lead just before halftime
- After this dominant first half, Presbyterian fought all the way back in the third quarter by out-scoring Queens 23-9 and cutting the deficit to 47-42 heading into the final 10 minutes. The Blue Hose took the lead back early in the fourth quarter and went on a 9-0 run with three 3-pointers to begin the quarter.
- After the final media timeout of regulation, Presbyterian held a slim 56-55 lead. After some back and forth, Kinley Brown hit a critical corner three with 1:30 remaining to tie the game at 60 which forced Presbyterian to take a timeout. The Royals would not score again as the Blue Hose finished on an 8-0 run to win 68-60
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- 19 points allowed in the first half is the least the Royals have allowed to a Division-I opponent this season. They only allowed fewer once this season when Wesleyan scored only seven points in the first half of that matchup
- The Royals grabbed the most rebounds of the season against a Division I opponent with 40
- The Royals shot a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line and were led in that department by Kinley Brown who went 6-6
UP NEXT
The Royals stay home this weekend when they will host their third non-Division I opponent of the season in Columbia College of the NAIA. This will be the first-ever matchup between the Royals and Koalas.
