Royals Fall at Winthrop Despite Double-Double from BJ McLaurin

The Short Story: After shooting lights out in the first half, the Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team went 0-for-14 from behind the arc in the second half as the Winthrop Eagles came from behind the defeat the Royals in Rock Hill.

BY THE NUMBERS
-Junior AJ McKee led all scorers with 23 points on 8-of-19 shooting from the field, including five three-pointers in the first half. The Charlotte native added three rebounds and two assists. McKee added to his season total with his fourth 20-point performance.
-Senior forward BJ McLaurin posted his second double-double of the season, and third of his career with a 16 point and 10 rebound performance. The Fayetteville native was a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe marking a new career-best.
-Point guard Deyton Albury packed the stat sheet again with 20 points, five rebounds, seven assists, and four steals. The four steals marked a career-high for the newcomer.
-Chris Ashby and Bryce Cash both earned their 10th starts and combined to score 13 points.
-Jaxon Pollard provided key minutes off the bench for the Royals scoring six points, grabbing five rebounds, and swiping a career-high three steals.
-The Royals committed 15 turnovers which the Eagles turned into 14 points. The 15 miscues were the most since November 10th at Southern Illinois.
-Queens won the battle on the glass 45-43, including 16 offensive boards.
 
NOTABLE MOMENTS
-Queens wasted no time jumping out to an early lead as the Royals went into the first media timeout with a 15-8 advantage. During that span, the Royals connected on three pointers from Chris Ashby, Bryce Cash, and AJ McKee.
-Leading 18-15 with 13:00 minutes left in the first half, Queens put together a 9-0 run increasing their lead to the largest of the game at 12.
-Winthrop responded immediately with a 12-3 run to cut the deficit back to three at 32-29.
-Trailing 61-53, the Eagles would go on a 10-0 run to grab their first lead of the second half.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
-The Royals struggled to connect from deep in the second half going 0-for-11 from behind the arc.
-The 20-point efforts from AJ McKee and Deyton Albury marked the second game this season that a pair of Royals have scored 20+ points in the same game.
-Queens fell to 10-2 in non-conference Division 1 games when leading at the half.
-Deyton Albury poured in 20+ points for the third time this season.
-Queens facilitated the basketball recording 15 assists for the sixth time this season, including the third straight game.
