Record-Breaking Performances Send Royals Past Centurions 134-69

THE SHORT STORY: The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team used a historic and record-breaking performance to dominate Carolina Christian 134-69 on Friday afternoon. The Royals made a record-breaking 22 three-pointers en route to breaking the single-game scoring record with 134 points.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Freshman Kobe George had the best offensive performance of his young career setting a career-high with 24 points and six three-pointers made.
  • Sharpshooter Chris Ashby continued his dominance from beyond the arc after a career performance on Wednesday against Gardner-Webb. Ashby hit five three-pointers in the first half alone and finished the game with six which was one shy of his career-high. The Houston, Texas native finished with 18 points.
  • AJ McKee continued his dominance with a 16 point performance, including a 6-for-7 mark from the charity stripe. The junior added four rebounds, four assists, and matched his season-high with three steals.
  • BJ McLaurin and Bryce Cash put together solid afternoons combining to score 16 points at a 50 percent mark. The duo also brought down eight boards together.
  • Floor general Deyton Albury stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, four rebounds, five assists, and a career-high three steals.
  • Veteran forward Jaxon Pollard set a career-high with 10 points and seven rebounds. The junior connected on 2-of-3 shots from behind the arc marking a season-high.
  • Malcolm Wilson had his best game as a Royal with 12 points and nine rebounds, including four on the offensive end. He finished one point shy of his career-high which he recorded at Georgetown on December 15, 2021.
  • High-flyer Jacobi Sebock dominated both ends of the floor with a career-high 11 points and nine rebounds. The sophomore has finished just shy of a double-double in consecutive games.
  • Logan Threatt notched a career-high 22 minutes of work and finished the afternoon with 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting. The Belmont native also dished out a career-high eight assists across a career-high 22 minutes of work.
  • In the closing moments of the first half, freshman Luke Krawczyk hit his first career three-pointer. The local product from Fort Mill finished with three points across a career-high nine minutes of action.
  • Junior Kalib Mathews saw his workload increase slightly since returning from injury. The guard played 14 minutes and finished with three points, one rebound, two assists, and one steal.
  • Friday afternoon saw Chris Ashby and Kobe George drill six three-pointers a piece marking the first time in program history that has happened.
  • Queens had their best performance off the bench in Division 1 accumulating 76 bench points.
 
NOTABLE MOMENTS
  • The Centurions hit several three-pointers early to cut the Royals lead to 13-9 at one point. However, Queens immediately responded with a 14-0 run of their own which was capped off by a three-pointer from Chris Ashby to give the Royals a 27-9 lead and force Carolina Christian to take a timeout. Following the timeout, Logan Threatt hit a three to extend the run to 17-0 and lead to 30-9 before the Centurions hit a three of their own.
  • The Royals went into halftime with a convincing 68-28 lead. In the first five minutes of the second half, the Royals brought back their starters and outscored the Centurions 15-9 to take an 83-37 lead.
  • Queens hit the century mark with more than 10 minutes remaining in the game when Logan Threatt hit a three-pointer to give the Royals a 101-47 lead.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • In the first half, Queens set a Division-I era record with 68 points scored. The mark is the most in any half since they scored 68 in the second half of a 114-60 win over UVA-Wise on February 12, 2022.
  • The 65-point victory is the largest margin since the Royals defeated UVA-Wise by 54 as previously mentioned.
  • This is the first game of the 2023-24 season that Queens has scored 100 points and the first time since January 14th, 2023 when they scored 107 points against North Alabama.
  • Queens set a program record for the most three-pointers made in a game with 22. The previous record was 19 which they achieved three times.
  • The 134-point milestone marked a program record for the Royals. Previously, they scored 133 in a victory over Young Harris College on November 12, 2021.
  • Queens outrebounded the Centurions 54-22 and improved to 20-6 in games in which they outrebound their opponent.
  • The Royals dished out 31 team assists which were the second most in program history, and the most in Division 1.
  • The Royals had seven players score in double figures, including Kobe George, Chris Ashby, AJ McKee, Logan Threatt, Malcolm Wilson, Jacobi Sebock, and Jaxon Pollard. This is the first time this season that five or more players finished in double figures.
 
NEXT UP
On Tuesday, the Royals travel to Rock Hill, South Carolina where they will take on Winthrop University at 6:30 PM. This will be the sixth-ever meeting between the Royals and Eagles and the first since 2010 when Winthrop defeated Queens 70-61. The Royals have defeated the Eagles twice before, in 1990 and 1993, when Queens defeated Winthrop by eight points each time. The Royals return home on Saturday, December 9th when they host Carolina University of the NCCAA.
