The Short Story: The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team used a 16-0 run over the final seven minutes of action in the first half to pick up their second straight victory. Three Royals poured in double figures as AJ McKee led the charge with a game-high 17 points.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Freshman Bryce Cash recorded double-digit scoring for the first time in his collegiate career pouring in a season-high 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field.
  • Veteran forward BJ McLaurin was relentless on the boards pulling down a career-high 12 rebounds. The Fayetteville native added seven points and an assist.
  • Floor general Deyton Albury packed the stat sheet with 12 points, seven rebounds, and a game-high seven assists.
  • Sophomore Jacobi Sebock cleaned the glass for the Royals, particularly on offense with three offensive rebounds. The Midwest City, Oklahoma native matched his season-high with six rebounds and seven points.
  • Sharpshooter Chris Ashby knocked down three shots from behind the arc for nine points. The junior turned in a career-high 38 minutes of work and swiped a career-high two steals.
  • The Royals won the battle on the boards 35-32 and improved to 17-6 in Division 1 when outrebounding their opponent.
  • Queens distributed the basketball well turning in 15 assists for the second time this season.
  • The physical battle warranted plenty of free throw opportunities for both squads and the Royals cashed in with a 14-for-18 clip.
 
NOTABLE MOMENTS
  • Both offenses came out scoring quickly combining to score 17 points on a 50-percent clip before the first media timeout.
  • The final seven minutes of the first half saw the Royals hold the Stags scoreless while countering with a 16-0 run. The spark extended the Royals lead to the largest of the half as they took a 33-21 lead into the break.
  • Fairfield opened the second half on fire using a 25-13 run over the first 10 minutes to cut the deficit to 47-46.
  • Heading down to the wire, the Royals put together a 10-2 rally extending their lead back to six at 61-55.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The 21 first-half points allowed were the fewest in an opening half by a Royals opponent since March 6, 2022.
  • The Royals forced 14 turnovers which were converted into 18 points.
  • Queens improved to 20-10 in Division 1 when attempting more free throw opportunities.
  • The Royals are now 8-0 in Division 1 non-conference games when leading at halftime and 11-0 when leading with five minutes to play.
  • The Royals shot 12-of-16 from the free-throw line in the second half to help seal the victory.
