Royals Clinch First-Ever ASUN Tournament Appearance with Incredible Comeback Victory

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Following a scoreless first half, the Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team used an incredible second-half performance netting three goals to storm from behind to defeat FGCU by a final score of 3-2 on Saturday evening. The comeback victory secured the Royals first ASUN Tournament appearance which will take place next weekend.

Turning Point
The turning point of the evening was the Royals relentless pressure in the second half as they were chasing three goals to keep their season alive. Senior Giuliano Lucca cut into the deficit in the 58th minute with a 15-yard strike into the top right corner of the net. Just 14 minutes later, Lucca found Samuel Idinge on a beautiful touch in front of the net which was headed away by the junior defender. After the Eagles lost a player to a red card late in the second half, the Royals took advantage of their opportunity, and the leading scorer Michel Feldman put away the game-winner on a header from a Caio Brandao corner kick.
 
Key Stats & Notes
  • Senior Giuliano Lucca led the Royals with three points behind a goal and an assist. The 58th-minute goal was his second of the season as he put a pair of shots on goal across 77 minutes of action.
  • Veteran defender Samuel Idinge found the back of the net for the second time this season and notched a career-best two shots on goal. The St. Petersburg, Fla. native completed the regular season having played every minute in all 16 matches.
  • The Royals leading goal scorer Michel Feldman continued his dominance and clutch performances netting his third game-winner of the year. The Frankfurt, Germany native turned in a career-high 81 minutes of work, including four shots and two shots on goal.
  • Veteran forward Ciro Bourlot Jaeggi applied extensive pressure throughout the match ripping four shots and placing two on frame.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Evan Morris improved to 4-4-2 with the victory. The Fort Mill, S.C. native picked up two saves.
  • Pantelis Pantelis, Cole Pumpian, Louis Goldsack, and Cade Bender recorded a shot on the night.
  • Four Royals, including Evan Morris, Samuel Idinge, Oskar Wolf, and Pantelis Panteli notched complete 90-minute performances. Caio Brandao added a career-high 83 minutes of action, including his second assist of the season.
  • After being outshot in the first half, the Royals dominated the attack in the second stanza outshooting the Eagles 13-4 over the final 45 minutes. Queens won the shooting battle for the match 17-11 which was a season-high.
  • Saturday night was a physical affair as both teams were playing for an ASUN Tournament berth. The match saw 37 combined fouls and eight cards.
  • The comeback victory was the Royals largest in the Division 1 era.
