Royals Fall to No. 21 Lipscomb on Late Second Half Goal

NASHVILLE, TENN. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team (1-6 overall, 0-2 ASUN) dropped their conference match at No. 21 Lipscomb on Saturday night by a final score of 2-1. The Royals battled for the entire 90 minutes, but a late second half goal from the Bisons proved to be the difference maker.

Turning Point
The turning point of the evening proved to be a late second half goal by the Bisons as Tyrese Spicer sent a cross into the box and Jelldrik Dallmann sent it home. The nationally ranked Bisons won the second half attack ripping 13 shots compared to the Royals two and eventually put the game winner away in the final moments.

  • Louis Goldsack scored the equalizer late in the first half for his fourth career goal, and first this season.
  • On the Goldsack goal, graduate student Felipe Mendonca dished out his fourth career assist earning his 46th career point.
  • Sophomore Mario Goic continued his offensive attack with his sixth multi-shot performance this season. The Croatia native has 26 shots this season which leads the team and the conference.
  • Javier Izquierdo-Cuervo made his seventh straight start between the pipes and faced a career-high 23 shots from an offense that ranks 15th nationally in shots per game. The freshman picked up four saves as he sits atop the conference in saves.
  • Felipe Mendonca, Louis Goldsack, and Mario Goic recorded multi-shot performances. Boris Basara, Simon Heim, and Caio Brandao added a shot.
  • Seven Royals played a full 90 minutes.
  • The Bisons generated opportunities by winning the corners battle 12-3.
 
Up Next
Queens will return to Charlotte for a two-game homestand. The Royals will welcome Wofford College on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 7:00 p.m. for a non-conference midweek match. The Royals will continue ASUN play on Saturday when the University of North Florida comes to the Queen City. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN Plus.
