Queens Volleyball Shines on Final Day of GATA Challenge

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Queens women's volleyball with head back home with two more wins in its pocket, as they managed to play their best ball on the final day of the GATA Challenge with a straight-set sweep over St. Francis (PA) (27-25, 25-14, 25-22).

The Royals concluded the weekend 2-1, picking up their fourth and fifth wins on the season.

Queens' offense got off to a hot start early, led by sophomore Alleigh Johnson who totaled five kills in the first set alone. The set was a back-and-forth affair, until sophomore Jordyn Johnson helped spark a six-point run with two kills and a solo block in that span. A brief comeback by the Red Flash was quickly put to a halt, as junior Victoria Wood helped sparked another run that propelled Queens to a thrilling 27-25 set victory in the first set.

The second set saw Queens take over in all aspects as they quickly jumped out to a 6-1 lead. Two kills by senior Abbey Criser and an ace by Kendall Buish helped the lead balloon to 10 points, as Queens pushed the score to 21-11, later taking the set thanks to three consecutive errors by St. Francis (PA).

Queens continued to capitalize on St. Francis (PA)'s errors as they gained an early 8-6 lead over the Red Flash. They fought back and were eventually able to grab the lead back from Queens, but did not last long as a few errors put the Royals back on top.

Both teams fought as the set progressed, leading to a 21-all tie. Queens were able to rattle off three straight points causing set point, and two points later claimed the set and ultimately the match.

Queens kicks off conference play on Friday, September 23 as they hit the road to take on Liberty.

This weekend was a great learning experience for our team. We are excited to start ASUN play next weekend" said head coach Hannah Long.
