Second Half Adjustments Not Enough for Royals at UAB

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – In their final match at the UAB Soccer for a Cure Classic, the Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team (0-2) dropped their non-conference decision against the University of Alabama at Birmingham (2-0) by a final score of 2-0. The afternoon was a physical battle as both teams combined for 22 fouls and eight cards.

Turning Point
Following a scoreless opening half, the turning point of the afternoon proved to be a Blazers penalty kick at the 58th minute. UAB managed to earn a PK after the ball was sent into the box from midfield resulting in a collision which earned the Blazers a penalty kick. For the second straight match, Blazers standout Nathaniel St. Louis found the back of the net to break the scoreless drought.

  • After being out shot in the first half, Queens made offensive adjustments in the second half keeping the totals close and ripped three shots, including a pair from Samuel Idinge.

Queens will get their first taste of ASUN play when they travel to Deland, Fla. for a match at Stetson on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 7:00 p.m. The match will conclude a three-game road stretch to start the season and the Royals will return to Charlotte for their home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 7 against Gardner Webb University.
