CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The 15
th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte Royals improved to 10-4 on the year and 6-3 in South Atlantic Conference play after defeating Lincoln Memorial University 20-4 on the road.
Austin Leonard led the Royals with five points on three goals and two assists while
Eli Morin and
Tanner Robshaw added three points each on three goals. Brendan Hennessey,
Kealan Pilon, and
Hunter Meyer each chipped in with two goals and one assist. Pilon's three points put him at 80 for the season which is new program single-season record.
The Royals were dominant in today's win, outshooting the Railsplitters 53-21 to put 34 shots on goal. Queens also won 23-of-28 face-offs with
Alex Alonso going 10-12 and securing eight ground balls.
Jonathan Stansel was 5-of-7 at the face-off and
Jacob Martin was 8-of-9. The Royals also totaled 38 ground balls in the win.
Queens jumped on the Railsplitters early, building a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. LMU would see its first goal of the day 13:09 in the second, but that would be their only goal of the half as the Royal took a 9-1 lead into the break.
The Royals outscored LMU 4-2 in the third before really putting the game out of reach in the final period with a 7-1 run.
Hunter Rinehart recorded 14 saves in goal for the Railsplitters.
The Royals will wrap up regular season play on Saturday at home against Catawba College. The Senior Day game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. with presentations taking place at 3:45 p.m.
