CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The 15
th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte Royals defeated Catawba College this afternoon at Dickson Field by a score of 21-8. The Senior Day victory helps Queens claim the fourth spot heading into the South Atlantic Conference Championships.
Kealan Pilon totaled seven points on three goals and four assists while
Tyler Ewen added four points on three goals and one assist.
Pat Marks recorded five points on four assists and a goal while
Adam Barry and
Jack Royer each netted two goals. Seniors
Alex Baker,
Brenden Hennessy,
Austin Leonard,
Lawson Sinclair, and
Devon Spencer were able to get in on the action scoring one goal each while
Jack Riddle dished out a pair of assists.
After both teams traded goals early, the Royals took total control with a 13-0 scoring run that spanned both periods of the half. By the break, Queens had built a 17-3 lead to put the game away.
The Royals outshot Catawba 46-30, putting 28 shots on goal. The Royals also dominated at the face-off winning 24-of-32 with
Alex Alonso winning 14-of-19. Alonso also led in ground balls with a 13 of Queens' 40 on the day.
Wesley Wheat recorded today's win in goal after totaling seven saves in 45 minutes of action.
Matt Mitchell and Joey Lindner each had two goals for Catawba. In goal, Tyler Holland had seven saves.
Queens will be back in action in the quarterfinal round of the SAC Championships on Tuesday, Apr. 26 at 7 p.m. They will face fifth-seeded Newberry at home.
