No. 21 Royals Sweep UVA Wise Securing SAC Regular Season Title

WISE, VA– The No. 21 Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team (12-4, 11-1 SAC) secured the South Atlantic Conference regular season title on Saturday afternoon as they defeated UVA Wise 7-0 on the road. Eight different Royals contributed to the shutout effort as Queens secured their fourth regular season title, and third South Atlantic Conference regular season title in program history. The Royals also extended their winning streak to eight matches as they head into postseason play.

"I am so proud of this team." said Head Coach Billy Boykin. "They're a great group. They believe in one another and always stick together. It is only fitting that our seniors put the season's final points on the board."

The Royals won all three doubles contests, clinching the first point of the day with a 6-0 win at No. 2 by Berk Enc and Jan Malmon, while Filippo Ercole and Samuele Pia won their match by default at No. 3. The tandem of Yoan Roussinov and Euan Lynes secured the doubles sweep with a 6-1 victory on the top court.

"Our five seniors – Yoan, Jan, Euan, Aidan, and Lleyton – carried us today. They were fantastic." stated Boykin.

All five seniors posted singles wins to help the Royals claim the 2021-22 SAC Regular Season Championship. With the Royals winning at No. 1 through 4 with a consecutive 6-0, 6-0 sweep, Berk Enc, and seniors' Yoan Roussinov, Jan Malmon, and Euan Lynes respectively put the Royals in ahead of the match.

Senior Aidan Davy put the Royals within a point of victory at No. 5 while Lleyton Dacuba closed the match with an 8-0 win to claim the victory for the team.

"They've done so much for this program over the last four years. They've really been special for us—on and off the court," Coach Boykin" You couldn't ask to coach a better group of young men. I am really happy for them—they earned this."

The Royals will start the conference tournament on Thursday April 21st as they look to win their third SAC Tournament Championships.
