CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The 17
th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team improved to 6-3 on the year and 3-2 in South Atlantic Conference play after collecting a 14-6 win over Coker University this evening on the road.
Tyler Ewen, Kealon Pilon, and
Austin Leonard each recorded three goals and one assist to lead the Royals offensively.
Ryan Lightsey added two goals.
William Powley took the win in the cage after recording seven saves in 52:32.
After falling behind 2-1 in the opening quarter of action, Queens put together a 5-1 run in the second period to take a 6-3 lead into the halftime break.
Out of the half, Queens struck first not even a minute into the third quarter. An answer would come from the Cobras with 10:45 to play, but the Royals responded with three unanswered goals en route to leading 10-4 heading into the game's final period.
The Royals dominated the fourth quarter on the offensive end scoring three consecutive goals once more to put the game out of reach for the Cobras.
Queens outshot Coker, 46-31, putting 32 shots on goal while the Cobras put just 13 shots on goal. The battle for ground balls was close with Queens edging the Cobras, 33-29. The Royals also won 16 face-offs with
Alex Alonso winning 14-of-19 to lead.
Coker's goalkeeper, Ethan Hofert, recorded 18 saves in the loss.
The Royals will return home on Saturday to face Tusculum University on Saturday, Apr. 2 at 12:30 p.m.
