CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte softball team (21-17, 8-6 SAC) played host to Wingate University (24-13, 17-5) at The Tuck this afternoon splitting the two-game series with the Bulldogs.  
 
Game One: Wingate 6 | Queens 4
Wingate would open up the scoring in game one with a home run over the center-field wall in the top of the first, and Queens would respond in the bottom when 
Kaylee DeJesus recorded an RBI double to play 
Ashlyn Mickler. A home run from 
Chloe Linton in the bottom of the second with a runner on base then put the Royals on top 3-1.
 
The Bulldogs answered scoring a pair of runs in the top of the third to knot the game, 3-3, but an RBI double from 
Jordyn Thompson in the bottom of the fourth followed by home runs from Hayley Nelson and 
Jordan Hunt in the bottom of the fifth and sixth would give the home team a 6-3 advantage heading into the game's final inning.
 
A wild pitch and throwing error by the Royals allowed the Bulldogs to get one more run on the board in the top of the seventh before Queens was able to get the final out and the win.
 
Thompson led the Royals with two hits while Linton totaled two RBI.
 
Khristen McPherson earned today's win in the circle after pitching 4.2 innings and striking out four batters. She is now 4-2 on the year.
 
Game Two: Wingate 5 | Queens 4
Thompson got the Royals on the board first in game two with an RBI double to right-center that put Queens in front 1-0 in the second. However, the Bulldogs would come alive over the next three innings, scoring five runs to take over. A three-run homer from Savanna Brooks capped Wingate's scoring in the top of the fifth.
 
The Royals answered in the bottom of the fifth when 
Haley Hmiel sent a home run over the left line fence, and a home run from 
Kayla Smith followed in the bottom of the sixth to close the gap to two, 5-3.
 
Queens' final run of the day then came from Smith on a single to center field that brought DeJesus across home plate.
 
Smith and Thompson each recorded two hits in the loss while Smith also led with two RBI.
 
Jordan Dunn's record moved to 11-9 after the freshman pitched all seven innings, striking out seven batters.
 
Queens is back in action on Saturday, Apr. 2 at Mars Hill University. The doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m.
