Queens Splits with Mars Hill on the Road

MARS HILL, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte moved to 22-18 on the year and 9-17 on the year after splitting a softball doubleheader with Mars Hill University (6-22) this afternoon.
 
Game One: Mars Hill 3 | Queens 2

Queens was able to get on the board first in game one after back-to-back walks gave the Royals two baserunners. A single from Chloe Linton would load the bases and an error by the Lions' third baseman allowed Jordyn Thompson to score an unearned run.
 
The Lions would get on the board in the third when Miranda Marks recorded a home run to knot the game at 1-1. An RBI single from Sydney Craig then gave them a 2-1 lead.
 
Mars Hill increased their lead to 3-1 on another homer to center field in the fifth.
 
After recording just one hit in the top of the sixth, the Royals looked to takeover in the seventh. However, they were unable to do so scoring just one more run in the game before retiring at the plate.
 
Pitcher Jordan Dunn took the loss, moving her record to 11-10 on the year.
 
Game Two: Queens 8 | Mars Hill 7

The Royals got off to a hot start in game two scoring four runs in the top of the first. Gerlea Patton would lead off with a double before stealing third and scoring on a single from Ashlyn Mickler. Jordyn Thompson then singled to get on base before Haley Nelson sent one over the fence to record three RBI.
 
However, the Lions answered right back in the bottom scoring four runs of their own to even the score.
 
Mars Hill took a 5-4 lead after scoring a run in the bottom of the third, but it was short-lived as the Royals responded with two in the top of the fourth.
 
Queens then extended its lead, 8-5, with one run in each of the sixth and seventh innings.
 
The Lions would try to make a final comeback in the bottom of the seventh, but they came up short leaving two runners on base.
 
The Royals recorded 13 hits in the win with five recording two each. Nelson led with three RBI.
 
Nelson also took the win in the pitching circle after striking out five batters.  
 
Queens will be back in action on Saturday, Apr. 9 on the road at Emory & Henry College. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
