WINGATE, N.C. – The third-ranked Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team improved to 7-0 on the year after defeating Wingate University (6-2, 2-1) on the road by a score of 19-12. The South Atlantic Conference win helps the Royals remain undefeated in league action at 2-0.
Though scoring the first goal of the game less than a minute into play, Queens found themselves trailing the Bulldogs 5-4 following the first quarter of action. However, six unanswered points for the Royals in the second would put them on top 10-5 with 6:21 to play in the period. Queens went on to outscore the Bulldogs 9-1 in the quarter to take a 13-6 lead at the half.
The Bulldogs would try to make a push in the third quarter scoring three goals in a row before the Royals'
Caroline Krauch got Queens going with a goal at 4:53. The Royals outscored Wingate 3-1 in the final five minutes of the quarter to take a six-goal lead into the final period where they held Wingate off to win by seven.
Rebecca Kinsley led the Royals in points with six on two goals and four assists while
Shannon Donovan and
Kaitlyn Hardin led with four goals each.
Kyleigh Masteran added a hat trick.
On the defensive end,
Grace Guglielmo had a day totaling seven caused turnovers and seven ground balls to go along with five draw controls.
Sydney Bracken totaled eight of the Royals' 20 draw controls. Queens also led in ground balls, 22-18.
Caroline Kraemer took the win in goal after totaling four saves in 36:25.
Sharn Muffett also saw time in the cage, recording three saves.
The Bulldogs were led by Leah Knowles who scored four goals.
Queens will return home to Dickson Field on Saturday hosting Mars Hill University in a game slated to begin at 12:30 p.m.
