CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The 12
th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team fell 10-6 to Belmont Abbey College (2-4) this afternoon at Dickson Field, moving to 4-1 on the year.
The Royals had a hard time getting the ball past Crusaders goalkeeper Thomas Sullivan who finished the day with 20 saves, just allowing six goals. The Royals outshot the Crusaders 39-37 putting 27 shots on goal to their opponent's 18.
Tyler Ewen had the best accuracy on the day for the Royals scoring four goals to lead Queens.
Jack Royer scored the additional two goals for the home team while
Pat Marks led in assists with two.
The Crusaders quickly jumped out to a three-goal lead in the game's opening quarter before the Royals answered with three to knot the game heading into the second quarter. Belmont Abbey then scored five unanswered goals to take an 8-3 lead into the half.
Queen would hold the Crusaders to just one goal in the third, however, they weren't able to find the back of the cage to make up any ground. The Royals then outscored Belmont Abbey 3-1 in the fourth to give the game its final score.
Riley Arsenault led the Crusaders with three goals while Noah Hass and Noah Sexton each added two goals.
William Powley recorded his first loss of the season in goal after totaling two saves in 27:20 of play.
Wesley Wheat recorded six saves in 32:40.
Queen will be back in action on Wednesday, Mar. 16 at No. 3 Wingate. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
