CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The third-ranked Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team cruised to a 21-4 nonconference victory in their first ever meeting with Palm Beach Atlantic University this afternoon at Dickson Field.
Queens' dominance in today's win was never left up to question as they outshot the Sailfish 36-9 putting 31 shots on goal. The Royals also won 21 draw controls and totaled 23 ground balls.
Kyleigh Masteran totaled three goals and two assists for five points to lead Queens while
Shannon Donovan and
Rebecca Kinsley each added four points on two goals and two assists apiece.
Kaitlyn Hardin recorded a hat trick and
Colby Dugdale,
Alexi Flores, and
Maura O'Donoghue each scored twice.
Caroline Kraemer recorded the win in goal after playing 45 minutes while
Sharn Muffett totaled three saves in 15 minutes of action.
Queens took an early lead over the Sailfish after finding the back of the net three times in the first three minutes of action. Palm Beach Atlantic would answer with a goal at 11:22 before the Royals scored 11 unanswered to take a 14-1 lead into the halftime break. The running clock rule had gone into effect with 11:20 on the clock in the second quarter.
The Royals added four more points to the board in the third quarter before the Sailfish scored two in a row to give the game an 18-3 score with 3:10 to play in the period. Queens then outscored Palm Beach Atlantic 3-1 in the fourth to end the game with a 17-point win.
Next, Queens will travel to face Wingate University next Wednesday, Mar. 16. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
