SALISBURY, N.C.- Super senior
Jordan Hunt put on a show today recording three home runs for the Queens University of Charlotte softball team (12-10, 2-0 SAC) as they opened up South Atlantic Conference play this afternoon at Catawba College (4-10, 0-2 SAC). The Royals defeated the Indians 7-5 in game one before cruising to a 9-2 victory in game two.

Game One: Queens 7 | Catawba 5
The Indians had an early one-run lead until the fourth inning when Hunt homered to left-center to even the game, 1-1. The Royals then took over in the sixth scoring four more runs with the first coming on a
Haley Nelson RBI single. Hunt then followed with her second home run of the game.
Jordyn Thompson then blasted a two-run homer that gave the Royals a comfortable 5-1 lead. Catawba would answer back in the bottom of the sixth with a Kary Hales home run to left field.

Queens solidified its win in the top of the seventh when Nelson sent one over the fence to record two RBI and put the Royals in front 7-2.
The Indians tried to rally in the bottom scoring three more runs, but the Royals' defense held strong to help Queens hold out for the win.

Hunt and Nelson both went 2-of-3 from the plate, while Nelson recorded three RBI. Hunt and Thompson tallied two RBI each.

Kate Hunter struck out six batters, allowing nine hits and five runs. Hunter's record improves to 6-2 with the win.

Game Two: Queens 9 | Catawba 2
With the score tied 2-2 following a triple from Queens'
Kaylee DeJesus in the top of the sixth, Queens saw its opening to take control after allowing just one hit and no runs by the Indians in the bottom.
The Royals then went to work in the top of the seventh, scoring seven runs off of six hits en route to winning the game. A two-run homer to left field by
Haley Hmiel got the ball rolling and a Kasidi Stanley double to right field followed bringing
Gerlea Patton across home plate to make the score 5-2. Next, Nelson recorded two RBI on a double to left field which plated DeJesus and Staley. Hunt would close things out with a two-run homer to right-center that gave the game its finals score of 9-2.
The Royals completed the game with 12 hits and nine RBI. Nelson recorded three RBI and Hmiel totaled two.Â

Jordan Dunn pitched all seven innings and struck out two. The freshman pitcher's record improves 4-6.

The Royals will be back on the road for their next doubleheader traveling to take on Belmont Abbey on Saturday, Mar. 5. The games are scheduled to begin at 1 and 3 p.m.
