HARTSVILLE, S.C. – A Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball squad missing a chunk of its roster traveled to Coker University this evening looking to collect a regular-season sweep of the Cobras. However, the Royals would fall 75-57 on the road to move to 6-13 on the year and 5-13 in South Atlantic Conference play.
Kalaya Hall finished play with 20 points to lead Queens while
Malea Garrison and
Mikayla Sink each chipped in with 11 points.
Queens struggled on the offensive end in the opening quarter shooting just 21.43-percent from the floor. They would find themselves trailing 18-9 at the close of the period as a result.
The Royals' offense picked up in the second, using a 7-0 run to pull within two, 22-20, at 6:24. However, four straight points from Coker's Diamond Jackson increased the Cobras' lead back out to six. A pair of layups from Hall would help the Royals cut the deficit to two once more, but that was as close as they would get before heading into the halftime break trailing 31-25.
Queens came out of the break cold as the Cobras outscored them 27-14 to build nearly a 20-point lead heading into the game final 10 minutes of action. Coker then increased their lead to as much as 27 points before the final horn sounded.
Jackson led the Cobras with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Ashauntee Nelson added 10 points.
The Royals will return home on Saturday, Feb. 12 to host UVA Wise inside Curry Arena. It will be the second game in the regular-season series with the Cavs and the game will serve as Queens' Play4Kay game. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
