Hall Nets 35 Points as Royals Fall to Cavs

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte's Kalaya Hall scored 35 points this afternoon as the Royals fell, 93-74, to UVA Wise at home in their Play4Kay game.
 
Hall shot 9-of-21 from the floor and 14-of-15 from the foul line. She also totaled seven rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Amari Davis added 16 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Jori Wilks totaled eight points and Malea Garrision chipped in with seven points and five steals.
 
The Cavs opened with a 5-0 spurt and would never relinquish control of today's game. Garrison on two occasions would pull the Royals within striking distance of the Cavs, but they eventually took a 23-14 lead into the second quarter.
 
Queens fell behind 13, 31-18, in the second before using a 7-0 run to close the gap to six, 31-25, with 5:24 on the clock. However, UVA Wise would respond with a 12-3 push to increase the margin to 15. They then took a 51-38 lead into the halftime break.  
 
The Cavs continued shooting well in third seeing their largest lead of the day on a layup from Kalee Johnson at 1:30 that put them in front 73-48. They then maintained their lead through the remainder of play despite the Royals' best efforts to get back into the game in the fourth.
 
Katlin Burger led the Cavs with 24 points and 10 rebounds while Nia Vanzant added 17 points. Mackenzie King scored 14 points and Johnson finished with 13 points. Caitlyn Ross totaled 12 assists and eight points.
 
Queens will have a short turnaround time before hosting Carson-Newman on Monday, Feb. 14 at 3 p.m. inside Curry Arena.
