CHARLOTTE, N.C. –The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team dominated Lees-McRae College this evening in its season opener defeating the Bobcats 21-5 at Dickson Field.
Queens got off to a hot start in this evening's season opener rattling off 10 unanswered goals in the first quarter of action.
Kealan Pilon led the way for the Royals, recording a hat trick in the game's first period while
Adam Barry,
Tyler Ewen, and
Jack Royer each added two.
In the second, the Royals maintained their control of play only allowing the Bobcats to score one goal. Lees-McRae's lone goal of the half would be sandwiched between a pair of early and a pair of late goals in the quarter for Queens. At the half, the Royals led 14-1.
Queens' offensive attack would back off in the second half, adding seven additional goals to the point total as they cruised to the program's 13
th consecutive win over the Bobcats.
Pilon and Royer finished with eight points each as Pilon totaled four goals and four assists and Royer tallied five goals and three assists. Ewen notched six points on four goals and two assists while also recording a pair of caused turnovers.
Adam Barry added four points on two goals and two assists and
Austin Leonard finished with two goals and one assist.
In goal,
William Powley took the win after totaling nine saves in 45 minutes of action.
The Royals outshot the Bobcats, 43-27, and won the battle for ground balls, 51-21.
Queens will return to play on Saturday, Feb. 12 when they travel to Savannah, Ga., to take on No. 17 Lynn University in a neutral site game. Play is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
