No. 3 Queens Tops Seventh-Ranked Mocs

LAKELAND, Fla. – The third-ranked Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team moved to 4-0 on the year after handing No. 7 Florida Southern College (1-1) its first loss of the season, winning 12-9 on the road.
 
Today's game was a physical one between the two powerhouses, seeing a combined total of 15 cards. Queens would be on the receiving end of eight, four of which would come during a pivotal third quarter of action.
 
After jumping out to a 2-0 lead early on goals from Rebecca Kinsley and Shannon Kingston, the Royals took a 3-2 lead into the second quarter of action. They then held the Mocs scoreless while putting for more balls in the back of the cage to take a 7-2 lead at the halftime break.
 
In the third, the Royals remained in front 9-3 with 7:05 to play. Queens was then plagued with yellow cards forcing them to play down, and the Mocs took advantage scoring three man-up goals en route to closing the period on a 5-0 run and making it a one-goal game heading into the fourth.
 
The Royals remained strong in the fourth once the field was all even, and outscored the Mocs 3-1 to secure today's victory. Kyleigh Masteran netted two of the goals and Kinsley scored the last with 1:55 to play to give the game its final score.
 
Masteran led Queens with four goals while Kinsley added two goals and two assists for four points. Shannon Donovan recorded three assists to lead in the category, and Kingston and Kaitlyn Hardin each scored twice.
 
Queens edged Florida Southern in shots, 27-26, while both teams placed 22 shots on goal. The Royals were edged at the draw, 12-11, and totaled 16 ground balls to Florida Southern's 21.
 
Caroline Kraemer the game with a career-high 13 saves. She is 4-0 this season in the cage for Queens.
 
Queens will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 5 when they face Tampa at Memorial Stadium in the Crown Lacrosse Classic. The game is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Tickets can be purchased here.
