SAINT LEO, Fla. – The third-ranked Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team (3-0) remains undefeated on the season after defeating No. 23 Saint Leo University this afternoon on the road. The Lions drop to 1-3 on the year following the loss.
Queens jumped on Saint Leo early scoring four unanswered goals before the Lions responded with a pair to make the score 4-2 with 3:58 on the clock in the first. Both teams then found the back of the cage once more before the end of the period to give the game a 5-3 score heading into the second where the Royals dominated outscoring Saint Leo 8-3 to take a 13-6 lead into the halftime break.
Queens would solidify its third win of the season holding the Lions to just one goal in the second half as they added seven more points to the board.
The Royals outshot the Lions, 39-16, putting 32 shots on goal for the day.
Kyleigh Masteran led in goals with six while
Carson Giordano added five points on three goals and two assists.
Sydney Bracken also netted three goals while
Rebecca Kinsley added five points on two goals and three assists. Kaitlyn Harden totaled four points on two goals and two assists.
Maura O'Donoghue added two goals and
Shannon Kingston chipped in with one goal.
Queens also won the battle at the draw, 20-11, and the battle for ground balls, 21-15. Queens'
Grace Guglielmo led in draw controls with eight while Bracken had seven. Giordano led with five ground balls.
In goal,
Caroline Kraemer earned her third win of the season after totaling seven saves.
Delaney Gilchrist led the Lions with three goals in the loss.
Queens will remain in the Sunshine State as they are scheduled to face No. 7 Florida Southern on Sunday, Feb. 27 noon.
