No. 3 Queens Dominant in Home Opener with Newberry

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team, ranked third nationally, opened South Atlantic Conference play this afternoon with a commanding 21-5 win over Newberry College.
 
Kyleigh Masteran led with six goals while newcomer Rebecca Kinsley added five goals and two assists for seven points. Carson Giordano added two goals and four assists for six points while Shannon Kingston added a hat trick. Sydney Bracken chipped in with two goals and one assist while Kaitlyn Hardin added three assists. Kingston also led in draw controls with eight while Hardin totaled five ground balls. Masteran totaled four caused turnovers.
 
Queens came out aggressively on the offensive end in the opening quarter to build a 10-1 lead after scoring eight unanswered goals. They would eventually take a 13-2 lead into the halftime break before cruising to victory in the second half.
 
Queens' defense was stifling, not allowing the Wolves to see more than nine shots in today's game. The Royals finished with 37 shots, putting 28 shots on goal.
 
Caroline Kraemer took the win in the cage after totaling one save. Mack Dorr of Newberry notched the loss after collecting five saves.
 
Queens is back in action next on Feb. 17 at home when they welcome Lee to Dickson Field for a 7 p.m. game.
