Queens Men's Basketball Prepped to Face Lynchburg on Wednesday Night

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team (4-1) will look to extend their winning streak on Wednesday night when they host the University of Lynchburg (1-3) inside Curry Arena at 6:00 p.m. Fans can tune in live on ESPN Plus.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Last time out, the Royals claimed the Rose Hall Division Championship at the Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic as they took down Morgan State by a final score of 74-64 at the Montego Bay Convention Centre. Queens used an early 20-0 run to maintain their lead as the Bears never came within eight points for the remainder of the game. Jay'Den Turner led the Queens offense with a career-high 23 points while also pulling down seven rebounds. Senior Kenny Dye continued to dominate dropping in 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including a perfect 3-for-3 mark from behind the arc.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
Wednesday night will mark the second all-time meeting between Queens and Lynchburg. The Royals defeated the Hornets in their first meeting on Dec. 19, 1998 by a final score of 67-52.
 
Game Notes
QUEENS UNIVERSITY OF CHARLOTTE (4-1 overall; 0-0 ASUN)
  • Queens enters Wednesday evening averaging 79.4 points per game on 47-percent shooting from the field and 32-percent from behind the arc. In the last two seasons, Queens is 26-0 when they reached the 80-point threshold.
  • The Royals defense is allowing 69.0 points per game on 42-percent shooting from the field and 30-percent from behind the arc.
  • Senior Kenny Dye is the leader of the veteran Royals squad. Dye is averaging a team-high 19.2 points per game while hauling in 4.2 boards and dishing out 5.4 assists per game. The Royals are 99-21 when Dye is in the starting lineup. Across the ASUN, Dye is second in points per game and assists per game.
  • Junior Gavin Rains has been a force on the block for the Royals to open the season. The Trinity, N.C. native is averaging 7.4 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. The forward leads the ASUN in rebounds per game and sits seventh in field goal percentage. In his career, Rains has 16 double-doubles.
  • Sophomore AJ McKee has been a consistent producer this season reaching double figures in all five games. In the opener of the Jamaica Classic, McKee tied his season-high with 14 points and matched his career-high sinking six free throws.
  • BJ McLaurin has been a weapon off the Royals bench this season averaging 8.4 points and 5.0 rebounds across 17.4 minutes per game. The Fayetteville native brought down a career-high 10 rebounds in the win over Morgan State on Sunday.
  • Sophomore Kalib Mathews has been in a groove early averaging 25.0 minutes off the bench and scoring 7.2 points per game and grabbing 3.6 rebounds per game. Against the Phoenix, Mathews, scored a career-high 15 points on an efficient 5-of-6 shooting from the field.
  • Queens returns 72-percent of their scoring offense from a season ago which won 32 games and reached the NCAA Sweet 16.
  • The Royals are outrebounding opponents this season 212-157. Through five games, Queens is first in the ASUN in rebounds per game with 42.5 and second in the league in offensive boards per game with 13.4.
  • Queens has finished with a winning record for the last 12 seasons dating back to 2009-10.
 
LYNCHBURG HORNETS (1-3 overall; 0-0 ODAC)
  • Lynchburg enters Wednesday night on a winning streak as the Hornets took down Amherts 62-57 in the Pablo Cato Tournament. The first victory of the season snapped a three-game losing skid.
  • This season, the Hornets are averaging 66.5 points per game behind a 35-percent shooting mark from the field and 24-percent clip from deep. Lynchburg is surrendering 82.7 points per game as opponents are shooting 47-percent from the field.
  • Lynchburg has been led this season by Miles Taylor as the junior is averaging 10.6 points and 8.0 rebounds across 28.0 minutes per game. The forward scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the loss at No. 4 Christopher Newport.
  • Junior guard Jordan Parham has made four starts for the Hornets and is averaging 8.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.
  • Despite the slow start to the season, Lynchburg has finished above .500 in the last 12 seasons dating back to 2010-11.
  • Lynchburg was picked to finish eighth in the ODAC Preseason Coaches Poll following a 14-12 season last year.
  • Hilliary Scott leads the Hornets in his 15th season and has a career record of 205-156. Under Scott's direction, the Hornets have an ODAC Championship title and an appearance in the D3 NCAA Tournament.
