Queens Men's Basketball Set to Face Green Bay at Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic in Montego Bay

MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA – The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team (2-1) is set to square off against Green Bay (0-3) on Friday afternoon in the opening round of the 2022 Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic. Tip-off is slated for 11:30 a.m. from the Montego Bay Convention Centre.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Royals dropped their first road trip of the season falling to the La Salle Explorers by a final score of 72-60. Queens committed 24 turnovers which were the most since January 10, 2018 and the Explorers managed to cash in with 22 points off the miscues. As a team, Queens shot 40-percent from the field and 25-percent from behind the arc. For the third straight game, Kenny Dye led the Royals scoring with 17 points while also grabbing three rebounds and dishing out four assists.

Game Notes
QUEENS UNIVERSITY OF CHARLOTTE (2-1 overall; 0-0 ASUN)
  • Queens enters Friday afternoon averaging 80.7 points per game on 46-percent shooting from the field and 33-percent from behind the arc. In the last two seasons, Queens is 25-0 when they reached the 80-point threshold.
  • Queens opened the year 2-0 for the 18th time in program history. The Royals are averaging 22 wins in seasons which they begin 2-0.
  • Senior Kenny Dye is the leader of the veteran Royals squad. Dye is averaging a team-high 18.3 points per game while hauling in 5.0 boards and dishing out 6.0 assists per game. The Royals are 97-21 when Dye is in the starting lineup.
  • Junior Gavin Rains has been a force on the block for the Royals to open the season. The Trinity, N.C. native is averaging 8.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. In his career, Rains has 16 double-doubles.
  • BJ McLaurin and Kalib Mathews have been two key bench pieces for the Royals so far this season. McLaurin is averaging 9.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game across 19.3 minutes per game. Mathews is averaging 24.7 minutes and scoring 5.3 points per game on 50-percent shooting from the field.
  • Queens returns 72-percent of their scoring offense from a season ago which won 32 games and reached the NCAA Sweet 16.
  • The Royals are outrebounding opponents this season 139-103. Through three games, Queens is third in the ASUN averaging 46.3 rebounds per game and second in the league with 15.7 offensive boards per contest.
  • Queens has finished with a winning record for the last 12 seasons dating back to 2009-10.
 
GREEN BAY PHOENIX (0-3 overall; 0-0 HORIZON)
  • Green Bay enters Friday afternoon with an 0-3 record after opening the season on the road. Despite the winless start, the Phoenix have faced a difficult schedule falling to Georgetown and Wisconsin in their last two games.
  • Green Bay holds the 24th ranked strength of schedule according to the ESPN Men's College Basketball Power Index.
  • The Phoenix are averaging 52.0 points per game behind a 37-percent shooting mark and 28-percent from behind the arc. The Green Bay defense is surrendering 76.0 points per game as opponents are shooting 49-percent from the field and 48-percent from deep.
  • Zae Blake is the leading scorer for the Phoenix as the sophomore is averaging 12.3 points per game behind a 77-percent field goal percentage.
  • Junior forward Davin Zeigler has started all three games this season and averages the second most minutes on the team with 28.0. Zeigler is scoring 9.3 points per contest and leads the team with 5.7 rebounds per game.
  • Green Bay was picked to finish 10th in the Horizon League Men's Basketball Preseason Poll following a 5-25 season last year.
  • Will Ryan leads the Phoenix for the third consecutive season holding a 13-45 record at Green Bay.
