CHARLOTTE, NC --The Queens University of Charlotte women's rugby team shined bright at home in their doubleheader matchups against Lander University and the University of Northern Iowa on senior night.
The Royals varsity squad started the day against Lander and dominated the Bearcats in the first half.
Alle English led the Royals with three tries.
Jenna Klenz,
Jay Stone and
Megan Friel also scored a try each to shutout the Bearcats 41-0.
The second half started the same as
Alle English got her fourth try.
Maddie Hughes would then follow with her own try.
Jay Stone would pick up her second try after that.
Alle English would then get another to boost the Royal lead to 68-0. Marley Wiley kept the ball with a try of her own to secure the 75-0 victory.
The second game was a little bit of a different story as the Royals had a close first half against the University of Northern Iowa. Northern Iowa started the first half with the lead but the Royals were able to tie them up and keep it close.
Faith Holley had two tries and
Kamia Kruse and
Salome Schmitt each had a try to make the score 24-12 at the half.
The Royals kept their momentum alive as they broke away from UNI in the second half. Queens left UNI scoreless in the second half to win the game 76-12. Maggie Sweeney,
Faith Holley, Ceci Calhoun,
Mikaela Hall,
Maggie Dineen and
Kamia Kruse each scored tries in the second half to seal the win.
Queens will look to keep their winning ways alive as they will travel to Annapolis, Maryland to face the United States Naval Academy on Saturday Oct. 29.
