CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team (1-1, 0-0 SAC) defeated the Clayton State Lakers (1-1-1) in a non-conference match, 4-3, in double overtime this evening with the golden goal coming from
Elvis Menayese. The home-opening win was the first of the season for Queens.

Clayton State scored the first goal of the game in the 38
th minute of play, and the goal from Geo Rios would be the only of the opening half as the Lakers took a 1-0 lead into intermission after outshooting the home team, 6-2, in the period.

Felipe Mendonca had an answer for Queens, scoring his first goal in the 57
th minute to tie the game at 1-1. However, Clayton State responded by scoring back-to-back goals in the 59
th and 61
st to grab a 3-1 lead.

Still trailing late in the game, the Royals continued to fight coming up lucky on two occasions when the Lakers committed fouls inside the box. Mendonca completed his hat trick on the night scoring both penalty kicks to force the game into overtime with the score knotted at 3-3.

Following a scoreless first overtime period, Menayese sealed the Royals' victory in the 105
th minute collecting the ball in traffic in the box before sending it into the back of the net.

Nicolai Andersen recorded five saves to collect his first win of the season.

Queens was outshot, 19-14, putting five shots on goal compared to the Lakers' eight shots on frame.

The Royals will be back home on Wednesday, September 15 to face off against Wingate University. The match will begin at 7:30 p.m.
