CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team (2-1-1, 1-0-1) defeated the Newberry College Wolves (0-6, 0-1 SAC), 3-1, tonight at Dickson Field to pick up their first South Atlantic Conference win of the season.

Newberry scored the game's opening goal at the 20
th minute to take an early 1-0 lead all the way into intermission.

In the second half, a handball called on Newberry in the box would allow Queens'
Felipe Mendonca to step up and do what he has done many times this season. The scored PK in the 67
th minute was the third PK of the season for Mendonca and his seventh goal of the season. The senior forward currently leads the league in goals and points with eight and 16, respectively, on the season.

With the game knotted, 1-1, the Royals then took the lead on another goal from Mendonca in the 68
th.Â

Joe Lilley sealed Queens' victory with an insurance goal in the 73
rd minute creating a comfortable 3-1 lead for the Royals. The goal was the first of his collegiate career.

Queens' aggressive play was on display throughout the night as they outshot Newberry, 11-6, putting up five shots on goals. Furthermore,
Nicolai Andersen collected his second win of the season.

The Royals will travel to take on Chowan University in a non-conference game on Wednesday, September 22.
