CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Queens University of Charlotte had 10 members of the women's triathlon team named Individual Scholar All-Americans by the Collegiate Triathlon coaches Association and USA Triathlon. This award is presented to student-athletes who have achieved a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the Spring 2021 semester.
The Individual Scholar All-American award recognizes student-athletes in each of the three NCAA divisions who excel in the classroom. Queens' women's triathlon programs also had the highest and third-highest GPAs in the department this year as the club squad recorded a 3.88 and the NCAA group posted a 3.77.
"For the third consecutive year, our women's program has finished among the top three varsity triathlon squads nationally with an academic mark of 3.77 team GPA," Queens head triathlon coach
Sonni Dyer stated. "As a whole, short-course and long-course women combined, 10 finished the spring semester earning a 4.0. They also accomplished this while competitively going undefeated in the process. What is clear is that their athletic discipline transitions well into academic excellence. What can I say? They keep raising the standard. And I couldn't be more proud."
The NCAA named triathlon an emerging sport for women in 2014, a designation that gives the sport a 10-year window to demonstrate sustainability at the NCAA level. Thirty-seven colleges and universities across the country currently sponsor the sport at the varsity level.
