CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team defeated Newberry College, 3-2, this evening to advance to the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Championship game for the third consecutive year.

The Royals took control of today's game early thanks to a goal from
Maya Forbes in the eighth minute of action. However, Newberry's Lily Drury found the back of the cage in the 14
th to even the score at 1-1 heading into the second quarter. Queens' goalkeeper
Avian Thompson finished the first quarter of play with five saves.

In the second, Queens jumped back in front in the 26
th on a goal from
Ellie Fitzgerald and they would ride the 2-1 advantage into the halftime break.

Out of the intermission,
Jill Sherman put Queens in front by two, 3-1, with a goal in the 33
rd, and the Royals remained in control of the game until the final horn sounded. Newberry's Drury would score another goal in the 58
th trying to force a late surge for her team, but time was on the Royals' side as they possessed the ball in the final seconds and drained the clock to zero.

Though both teams would put nine shots on goal today, Newberry outshot the Royals 14-11. However, Queens was able to earn six penalty corners to the Wolves' four.

Millie Eaton-Jones and
Victoria Tredinnick each recorded assists in today's win. Thompson completed 60 minutes of play in the cage with seven saves.

Tomorrow's Championship is set to begin at 2 p.m. at Bessant Field. The Royals will be on the hunt for their first tournament win.
