YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.- The number six team in the land Queens Royals traveled to Georgia this afternoon, which resulted in an eye-catching 23-10 win for Queens over Young Harris. With the result, the Royals improve their record to 3-1 on the season.
Ally Blood led all scorers today with her dominant nine-point haul amassing three goals and six assists. She now has 100 career assists with the Royals.
Rachel Perrett was not far behind as she accumulated seven points with five goals and two assists.
Shannon Donovan and
Caroline Pearce each finished with four points as Donovan contributed four goals and Pearce added a goal and three assists.
Kyleigh Masteran and
Shannon Kingston both completed hat tricks to round out Queens' scoring which was a collectively unrelenting attack today.
The Mountain Lions opened the games scoring two minutes into play, but the Royals did not waste time answering. A minute later
Shannon Kingston got Queens on the board and the team was able to articulate an impressive six-minute stretch scoring seven times in that span. Two goals in under thirty seconds brought Young Harris within four as the Royals lead stood 7-3. Queens was able to counter with their own two goals in thirty seconds to lengthen their advantage back to six. The Royals were then able to manufacture another dominant run of nine minutes yielding five goals and only conceding once. The teams ended the half trading goals as Queens took a healthy 15-6 lead into halftime.
The Royals were able to do much of the same in the second half as
Shannon Donovan scored forty-five seconds into the frame. Queens then went on what is becoming their signature run with smothering defense and tenacious offensive play bewildering their opponents. The display to start the second half spanned 17 minutes and saw the Royals score eight while not allowing a goal against. With 12 minutes left in the game, Queens had a commanding 23-6 lead. The Royals didn't produce anymore as Young Harris scored four unanswered goals to close out the game.
Queens dominated the stat sheet much as they dictated the pace of play for a good deal of the game. The Royals doubled up the Mountain Lions 34-17 in total shots. Queens found the net with more consistency hitting the cage 31 times compared to Young Harris' 13. Additionally, the Royals were perfect on the day clearing going an immaculate 12-12 while the Mountain Lions found it difficult to break Queens' ride finishing with a 65 percent success rate (11-17). The Royals won the battle on the ground coming up with 21 ground balls; Young Harris finished with 12. Queens dominated the draw winning 21 of 35.
The Royals are back in action Wednesday, March 10 as they host South Atlantic Conference opponent Wingate. The game is set for a 4 p.m. start.
