Royals Fall in Series with Coker

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte softball team welcomed Coker University to The Tuck this afternoon for a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader, falling 10-8 in game one and 11-3 in game two.

Game 1: Coker 10- Queens 8
An unearned run in the bottom of the first inning got the Royals on the board first in game one. Queens then added four runs in the bottom of the third when Kayla Smith doubled to center field to record an RBI and McKenzie McCullen sent a bomb over the center field fence to record three RBIs.

Chloe Linton then stole home in the fourth and McCullen recorded her second home run of the game in the fifth to give the home team what seemed to be a convincing 7-0 lead.

However, Coker's bats would get going in the sixth as they were able to score three runs and cut the lead to four, 7-3. They then completed their comeback in the top of seventh recording seven runs to take over control of the game. A home run from Bailey Douglas with two runners on base would be the dagger.

The Royals tried to counter in the bottom of the seventh as Breanna Martinez homered to left field pulling the Royals back within two, 10-8. However, three outs followed ending the game.

Game 2: Coker 11- Queens 3
Both teams got runs on the board early in game two as the Cobras' Kayla Oswell hit a single to center field with the bases loaded to record the game's first RBI. Mikayla Goodwin followed with a double to center field, recording three RBIs, and Bailey Douglas singled to right field on the next play to bring her home.

Queens responded in the bottom of the first with three runs to give the game a 5-3 score. McKenzie McCullen and Haley Hmiel each recorded RBIs on singles in the inning.

Unfortunately for the Royals, Queens struggled to get their bats going for the remainder of the game as the Cobras got hot again in the top of the sixth recording two home runs with runners on base to give the game its final score.

The Royals have a week off before traveling to Wise, W.Va., to take on UVA Wise on April 7.
