CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team (2-3, 2-3 SAC) suffered 3-2 loss this evening in their home match with Newberry College (1-4-1, 1-3 SAC).
Â
Newberry was the first on the board with a goal from Dan Stryffeler in the 30
th. The Wolves then carried that lead into the halftime break despite the Royals getting five shots off in the period.
Â
Queens would come out aggressive in the second half finally finding the back of the net on shot from
Felipe Mendonca in the 66
th minute off an assist from
Keegan Burton. That goal would be goal number six for Mendonca as he continues to lead the Royals this season.
Â
Elvis Menayese then caught the Wolves' goalkeeper sleeping in the box to score his first goal of the season about two minutes later, putting the Royals in front 2-1.
Â
It seemed as if the Royals were on their way to pulling out the win, but Newberry's Troy Paul scored in the 81
st minute evening the score once again, 2-2.
Â
Newberry's Malte Kaiser then scored tonight's game-winner in the 85th minute off a rebounded save inside the box.
Â
The Royals will be back in action Thursday, April 1 heading to Limestone University. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
