No. 6 Queens Extends Win Streak to Five with Win over Coker

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The sixth-ranked Queens University of Charlotte Royals extended their win streak to five as they rolled past South Atlantic Conference opponent Coker. The 27-1 win moves Queens' record to 7-1 overall and keeps a perfect 5-0 in conference. It also matches the Royals' single-game record for points scored.

Kara Blanchard was on fire today and could not be stopped on her way to an impressive eight points on five goals and three assists. Ally Blood matched her teammate at the summit with eight points as Blood was able to slice and dice finding a plethora of openings producing seven assists and a goal. Rachel Perrett oozed goals as she amassed five and added an assist for good measure. Kyleigh Masteran finished the game with five points on four goals and an assist en route to scoring her 100th career point. Caroline Pearce ended up accumulating four points on a pair of goals and two assists and Shannon Kingston and Sydney Bracken both completed hat tricks for three points apiece.

Queens completely controlled the flow of the game in the first half not allowing Coker any chance of grabbing a hold of this game. It was out of the Cobras reach about as fast as it started with the Royals' offense striking lightning fast. Bracken started things off for Queens and they would not slow down finding an electric pace, one that Coker could not match. The Royals offense was blinding but almost just as impressive was their stout defense. Queens was able to smother and stifle any Cobra attacks not allowing a single shot on net in the first half. At the end of the first half, Queens held an untouchable 16-0 lead.

The second half was much of the same, as the Royals did not slow down or miss a beat on either side of the ball. Queens' offense kept their foot on the accelerator scoring four in the first 10 minutes of the half. The Royals did not loosen their grip on the defensive end and held Coker without a shot in the second half for the first twenty minutes. The Cobras were finally able to crack the code and land their first blow but it would be their only goal of the contes as Queens would go on to see out the 27-1 victory.

Queens utterly dominated their competition today and the team stats indicate as much. The Royals outshot the Cobras 52-2, with 42 of their shots finding the target. Queens suffered 14 turnovers as Coker committed 35. The Royals were near perfect clearing the ball today doing so 7-8 for an 87 percent success rate. Coker found it near impossible to best the tenacious Queens ride going 4-27 on the day for a 14 percent success rate. The Royals were also persistent on the ground coming up with 32 ground balls as Coker finished with 12. Additionally, Queens was able to control long stretches of the game with their fantastic play at the draw winning 24-30.

The Royals are back in action Saturday April 3 as they host South Atlantic Conference opponent Lincoln Memorial University. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
