CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (1-11, 1-10 SAC) hosted No. 22/13 Tusculum University (12-2,12-2 SAC) this evening, falling 85-54 to the Pioneers.
Kelsey Leedle and
Caitlyn Moore led the Royals with 13 points each. Moore also dished out six assists and grabbed five rebounds while Leedle grabbed six rebounds.
Tia McMillian finished with nine points, three rebounds, and two assists.
Amari Davis totaled eight points and eight rebounds to lead under the glass.
Tusculum jumped out early in tonight's game going on a 9-0 run before
Christina Deng put the Royals on the board with a layup at 6:06. Moore then scored six points in a row to bring the Royals to within six, 17-11, by the end of the quarter.
A three-pointer from McMillian early in the second followed by a jumper from Davis cut the Pioneers' lead to one, 17-16, with 8:40 on the clock, but a 6-0 push from Tusculum allowed them to pull back ahead by seven, 23-16. Another triple from McMillian closed the gap to four, but that was as close as the Royals got in the half as Tusculum increased its lead to as much as 17 before the break.
Despite neither team shooting well in the third, the Pioneers were able to increase the margin to 28 points before closing the period in front, 61-36. Tusculum then shot 66.67-percent from the floor in the fourth to collect the 31-point road win.
Maddie Sutton led Tusculum team with 32 points and 16 rebounds while Deidra Cheremond added 13 points. Mya Belton totaled 10 points and seven rebounds. Jalia Arnwine chipped in with 10 points.
The Royals will continue their three game homestand on Wednesday, February 10 when they welcome Coker University to Curry Arena. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
