CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (1-12, 1-11 SAC) hosted Coker University (5-9,5-8 SAC) this evening, falling 69-61 to the Cobras.
Kalaya Hall led with 20 points and two assists while
Amari Davis finished with a double-double after totaling16 points and 11 rebounds.
Caitlyn Moore added 13 points, four rebounds, and two assists and
Christina Deng chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Tonight's game was a back-and-forth affair early with Coker scoring the first basket in the game. Hall responded for Queens hitting back-to-back threes to give the Royals a one-point lead, 6-5. However, the home team's lead would be short-lived as the Cobras were able to answer with back-to-back threes which provided them with an 11-6 advantage with 6:33 on the clock. Coker then extended their lead to 11, 23-12, by the end of the period.
The Royals pulled within nine of the Cobras several times in the second quarter, but Coker held out for a 41-25 halftime lead after closing the period with three triples in a row followed by a layup.
Queens found themselves trailing by 25 points, 62-37, before shooting nearly 60 percent from the floor while holding the Cobras to just 11 percent shooting to make their comeback. The Royals outscored Coker 24-7 in the period going on a 20-0 run to close the gap to just six points, 67-61, with eight seconds to play.
Valicia Demerite led Coker with 14 points, and Ahlea Myers totaled 13 points. Hope Richardson grabbed eight rebounds for the Cobras.
The Royals will continue their homestand on Saturday, February 13, when they welcome UVA Wise to Curry Arena for Homecoming. Tipoff is at 2 p.m.
