JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (1-10, 1-9 SAC) traveled to Jefferson City, Tenn. to take on No. 13/22 Carson-Newman (10-1, 10-1 SAC) this afternoon, falling 93-62.
Kalaya Hall led the Royals with a career-high 26 points, seven assists, and three steals.
Caitlyn Moore finished with 14 points, five rebounds, and two steals.
Tia McMillian and
Christina Deng both added six points apiece, and Deng finished with seven rebounds.
Queens was slow to get going today as Carson-Newman opened with an 8-0 run. With 8:20 on the clock,
Kelsey Leedle put the Royals on the board with a fastbreak three-pointer assisted by Hall. Hall then executed from the three to bring the Royals within four, 10-6. However, a scoring drought soon followed for the Royals as the Eagles extended their lead to 14, 20-6, by the 4:31 mark. An 8-0 push late in the period sparked by back-to-back threes from McMillian would close the gap to six, but Carson-Newman closed the quarter outscoring Queens 7-2 to take a 29-18 lead into the second.
Queens continued to struggle on the offensive end in the second quarter as Carson-Newman increased the margin to 17 before a three-pointer from Hall ended their drought at 7:12. The Royals would score just nine points in the quarter as the Eagles took a 49-27 lead into the halftime break.
Despite the Eagles maintaining their lead in the third, Hall got the hot hand offensively allowing the Royals to hang with Carson-Newman for the period as both teams added 21 points to their total. Hall scored 13 of Queens' 21 points in the quarter connecting on 5-of-7 from the floor and 2-of-3 from deep.
Braelyn Wykle led the Eagles with 23 points and five rebounds. Skylar Boshears added 21 points and four rebounds and Lindsey Taylor totaled 13 points and eight rebounds.
The Royals will be back home on Monday, February 8 hosting No. 22/13 Tusculum University. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
