No. 19/22 Queens Closes Out Regular Season Against Coker

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 19/22 Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team concludes the 2020-21 regular season on Monday evening when the team welcomes Coker University to Charlotte for a South Atlantic Conference matchup. Tip-off from Curry Arena is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on the Queens Sports Network.
 
Monday marks the 53rd all-time meeting between the two sides with Queens holding a 44-8 advantage in the series. The Royals has won the last 12 meetings, including a 73-63 in Hartsville, S.C. on Jan. 4, 2021 in the most recent matchup.
 
Queens Athletics is not currently allowing spectators at any event inside of the Levine Center in accordance with CDC guidelines and the most recent mandate from Mecklenburg County. IN THE BACKCOURT
 
-Junior point guard Kenny Dye runs the Queens offense, averaging a SAC-high 5.6 assists per game to go along with 12.5 points per contest on 42.3 percent shooting from deep. Redshirt-freshman guard AJ McKee has been on a tear of late, averaging 22 points, four rebounds, and five assists per game over the last three contests while shooting 47.8 percent from three-point range.
 
-Queens' combo guard Quan McCluney has been inserted into the starting lineup for the last three games and is averaging 12.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest while making nearly 40 percent of his 3-point attempts.
 
- Coker's lone double-digit scorer comes in the form of junior guard Chandler Lindsey who averages 13.8 points per game to go along with 4.3 assists per game. Junior guards Anthony Thomas and Malcolm Kennedy each average 9.2 points per contest to provide complimentary scoring options.
 
IN THE FRONT COURT
 
-In the post, redshirt-sophomore Jamari Smith has returned to the court after missing the first six games of the year and is leading the team with 15.9 points per game while shooting 50.4 percent from the floor. Sophomore Gavin Rains controls the paint, ranking second in the SAC with 8.5 rebounds per game, including 3.7 rebounds per game on the offensive glass, to go along with 11.4 points per game.
 
- The Cobras start four guards in their lineup as 6-10 forward Ryan Cerfley provides the size up front. The Marion, S.C. native has scored in double figures just twice this season, but shoots 56.8 percent from the floor. Lindsey is the team's leading rebounder with 5.9 boards per contest.
 
ON THE SIDELINES
 
-Queens Head Coach Bart Lundy is in his 19th season overall and 13th season at Queens. During his career with the Royals, Lundy is the program's winningest coach with a 300-97 (.754) record and has a 396-184 (.682) career coaching record at Queens and NCAA Division I High Point University. During his reign, Queens has won five conference championships (three Conference Carolinas, two South Atlantic Conference), four Southeast Region Championships and has made seven appearances in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
 
-Coker Head Coach Jarred Merrill enters his second season in charge of the Cobras and second season overall as a collegiate head coach. In his first season, Merrill guided Coker to a 7-19 record, with six of those wins coming in SAC play. Merrill previously spent four years as an assistant at NCAA Division I Mercer University as well as Southern Nazarene University.
 
-Lundy and Schertz have a long history on the sidelines together and as opponents dating back to the 2001-02 season. From 2001-2003, Schertz served as Lundy's assistant head coach for the Royals as Queens went 48-14 advanced to the NCAA Division II Final Four for the first time.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
 
-The Royals are 13-4 overall with a 12-3 record in SAC play. Queens ranks among the NCAA Top 30 in scoring defense as opponents are scoring just 68.4 points per game on 40.8 percent shooting from the floor. The Royals force 15.1 turnovers per contest and score 16.9 points per game off of those miscues.
 
-Offensively, the Royals score 79.9 points per game and have scored 85 or more points eight times this season. Queens is shooting 47.6 percent from the floor and 39.1 percent from 3-point range as a team while holding a plus-8.9 margin in rebounds per game.
 
-Last time out, Queens collected an 86-60 win over Anderson University (S.C.) on Monday night, giving Head Coach Bart Lundy his 300th career win in the Queen City. The Royals forced a season-high 23 turnovers and scored 25 total points off of the miscues. Queens shot 53.2 percent from the floor as McKee led all scorers with 17 points on the night and Smith finished with 16 points of his own in just 21 minutes on the court. Rains followed with 14 points and six rebounds and Dye had 13 points with six assists.
 
-The Cobras are 4-9 overall with an identical 4-9 record in conference play. In the team's most recent game, Coker dropped its Senior Day contest to Tusculum on Saturday by a score of 81-67 at home. Coker shot 39 percent in the game as Williams Onyeodi led the Cobras with 20 points, while Anthony Thomas also added 10 points. Coke was outrebounded by a 46-30 margin but did force the Pioneers into 21 turnovers.
 
-Coker is last in the League in points per game (67.3) but ranks among the Top 5 defensively, giving up just 72.6 points per contest. The Cobras' lack of size has led to just 32 rebounds per game and the team shoots just 31.5 percent from 3-point range.
