CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (1-14, 1-13 SAC) hosted Catawba College (6-2,6-2 SAC) this evening, falling 74-59 to the Indians.
Amari Davis recorded her second double-double of the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds, leading in both points and rebounds.
Kalaya Hall added 13 points and three assists while
Christina Deng totaled 12 points and five rebounds.
Catawba put a quick two points on the board in the first quarter, but their lead didn't last long as Davis answered with a jumper. It was a back-and-forth affair from that point with the Royals using a quick 5-0 spurt to knot the game once more at 11-11 with 4:30 left on the clock. By the end of the quarter, both teams had 16 points on the board.
The Indians would go on an 11-0 run early in the second quarter as Queens' first bucket of the period came from McMillian at 8:07. However, the Royals were able to find their rhythm in the final minutes of the half, closing the gap to five on a layup from Deng just before the break.
Caitlyn Moore scored the first points in the second half at 7:55 as both teams got off to a slow start offensively. Her basket would cut the margin the three, but the Indians' Sara McIntosh responded with a layup to put Catawba back in front by five. Queens then cut the lead to three twice more before the Indians were able to create some space and take a 56-48 lead into the final period.
In the fourth, Catawba stayed in control of the game holding the Royals to less than 20 percent shooting while building as much as a 19-point lead before the final buzzer.
McIntosh led Catawba with 21 points. Shemya Standback and Lyrik Thorne contributed to 12 points apiece.
